Play by post?

i have recently made a lot of friends and acquaintances among the croud of awesome people attracts. A friend i started RPing with gave me the idea of a group RP for some of my many ideas with greater than personal scope. But between everyone having their own lives, and the general hassle of the format of DA notes for that sort of thing, i am wondering what is a more efficient and easier way such as a play by post forum, DAs forums seem a fare bit public and open access for that.
